The Chicago Bulls have already decided to not offer Zach LaVine an extension for now, allowing him to hit restricted free agency next summer. However, if he plays well for them this season, it can be expected that the team will match any offer extended to him in order to keep his services, according to Sean Highkin of Bulls.com.

Zach LaVine landed in The Windy City as part of the blockbuster deal that sent Jimmy Butler to the Minnesota Timberwolves during draft night in June. He is now entering his fourth season in the NBA following his stint with UCLA back in 2013. He is best known for winning the Slam Dunk Contest in consecutive years, perhaps delivering one of the most mesmerizing aerial exploits in the mid-year event's history. Apart from that, it would be unfair to not make notice of his strong play on the court for the Timberwolves last season. His game has improved in a lot of ways, from being touted as a mere high-flyer to becoming a potent offensive weapon.

Despite all these, it is very understandable that the Bulls are not offering him an extension for now. After suffering an ACL injury last year, the team may want to see how his recovery goes first, and if he can return strong this year. Should he regain his old form, Chicago will definitely do their best to make sure Zach LaVine continues his career with them.

With career averages of 13.7 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 3.2 assists, LaVine is expected to play a huge role with the Bulls, but focusing on returning to 100 percent health is most important for now. Should he show no lingering effects of the knee injury, not only will he receive a lot of playing time, but he could also set himself up for a lucrative offer next summer, and secure his future as well.
