Chicago Bulls guard Zach LaVine is shooting for the stars. Well, “superstar” status that is.

LaVine remains hell-bent on becoming one of the elite players in the NBA and isn't satisfied with being a No. 2 guy. He wants to be among the best of the best:

“I don’t work my ass off to be a No. 2 guy or a No. 3 guy. I want to be a superstar,” LaVine said via Darnell Mayberry of The Athletic. “I want to be a top of the league type dude. And that’s what I see myself as. And I’m going to continue to strive for that and reach for my goals. That’s why I work so hard for it. I don’t sacrifice my entire summer and grind my life away to be just a regular guy in the NBA.”

As a Bulls fan, you have to love the mindset from the two-time Slam Dunk Champion.

While the desire is there, the results, unfortunately, have not shown so far.

LaVine has actually regressed slightly from his career season in 2018-19. Through 25 games this season, the 6-foot-6 guard is putting up nightly averages of 22.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 4.0 assists while shooting just 42.5 percent from the field. All these numbers are down from last season.

The thing that separates LaVine from those at the top of the NBA food chain is consistency. All elite superstars in The Association are consistently great every night. LaVine, now in his sixth NBA season, is still experiencing those nightly ups and downs.

Likewise, LaVine's play hasn't translated into winning yet. He and the rest of the Bulls had high hopes to, at the very least, compete for a playoff spot this year. However, Chicago has come up short of expectations and is just 8-17 on the season so far, with a handful of heartbreaking losses to boot.

The Bulls suffered another one of those losses on Monday night, falling 93-92 to the Toronto Raptors after LaVine missed a potential game-winner and scuffled in the fourth quarter.

While LaVine has had his issues in crunch time, he certainly doesn't lack in confidence. The former 13th overall pick has the utmost belief in himself for the work he puts in on a daily basis.

All is not lost for Zach LaVine. He is still just 24 years old, so there's time for the high-flying guard to work on his craft and eventually get to that superstar status.
