Chicago Bulls shooting guard Zach LaVine recently expressed his thoughts on being invited to this year’s slam dunk contest.

In an interview with K.C. Johnson of NBC Sports Chicago, LaVine said that while he doesn;t have anything to prove in the contest, he “would love to do it” for the home fans. For what it's worth, Chicago will be hosting the 2020 All-Star Weekend from Feb. 14-16.

“I don't have a whole lot to prove in it,” LaVine said. “I would love to do it for the fans and the hometown. I want to make sure that my body feels right. I'm more focused on winning games right now, being in the All-Star game. I feel like that will give me more of something to do when I'm there. Obviously, I want to do something over the weekend. I want to do the three-point contest; I’ll do that. I think there will be an opportunity for me to do it. I need some time to practice, but I’m still mulling over the [dunk contest] decision. Figure it out in a couple of weeks probably.’’

The two-time dunk contest champion is arguably one of the best dunkers in the NBA. Back in 2016, he scored the highest score in any round with 200 in the final round, as well as the best overall score with 299 points.

Zach LaVine would be contending with an elite group of dunking participants that have already been invited, including Dwight Howard, Ja Morant and Derrick Jones Jr.

Moreover, LaVine is seeking to make his first All-Star team of his career, as he's averaging a career-high in points (23.8) to go along with 4.5 rebounds and 3.9 assists. He has led the Bulls to a 13-23 record and three games behind the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference.
