Chicago Bulls shooting guard Zach LaVine will make an appearance at the NBA's 2020 All-Star weekend after all — just not in the All-Star Game or the Dunk Contest.

LaVine will participate in the NBA's 3-point contest in Chicago, per The Athletic's Shams Charania. The Bulls have hosting honors for the All-Star weekend this year.

The 24-year-old high-flier was previously a back-to-back Slam Dunk Contest champion in 2015-16 with the Minnesota Timberwolves, and after lobbying fans and coaches to vote him into the All-Star Game this year, the former UCLA Bruin will have to settle for one competition appearance during the NBA's festivities in two weeks.

The 6-foot-6 LaVine is shooting 37.6 percent from 3-point range this season for the Bulls, as he averages a career-best 24.9 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. The 2019-20 season marks LaVine's second full season back from a torn ACL he suffered in February 2017 with the Timberwolves, after which he was traded to the Windy City franchise in the following offseason in the Jimmy Butler deal.

LaVine is now in his third season with the Windy City franchise and has gradually improved, turning into a fringe All-Star candidate this season (although he was not selected to the game).

Zach LaVine is most known around the All-Star Weekend for his gravity-defying dunks during the Slam Dunk Contest when he won the competition as a high-flying rookie in 2015. The next year, LaVine narrowly edged out Orlando Magic power forward Aaron Gordon in one of the best, if not the greatest Slam Dunk Contests in history.

This time around, however, LaVine will be trying his hand at winning a jump shooting competition instead of one requiring leaping.
