Former Los Angeles Lakers head coach Byron Scott is now the latest to chime in on the team's potential recruitment of Paul George. With all the rumors that have surfaced linking the franchise to pursuing the Indiana Pacers forward, the 56-year-old shared that this offseason is the best time to make their move.

Scott understands the Lakers' need for a star who can help speed up their rebuilding process and turn their fortunes around. He said it will be a risk if they don’t make a move for the four-time All-Star now, as he may opt to decide to play for another squad next summer should he feel the team is not showing enough interest in him.

Since coming back from a leg injury that he suffered in August of 2014, George has shown no ill effects. He has re-established himself as one of the best players in the league, leading the Pacers to playoff appearances. However, their inability to come out of the Eastern Conference and compete for a championship has continued to be a concern for him and he’s been vocal about his desire to win.

The Lakers may not be the team he can win with immediately, but if George is willing to take their young core under his wings, they have the potential to become a team of the future that can be perennial title contenders someday. He is also from Southern California, which could work to the Lakers’ advantage, but if they won’t start to lure him to play for his hometeam, Scott’s statement may turn out to be true, and the franchise could lose their chance of seeing George wearing the Purple and Gold jersey.
