Former Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator Norv Turner recommended to Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots that they bring in Cam Newton.

According to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, Turner was asked a few days ago where Newton would sign, and he very matter of factly said that the former Panthers standout would be signing with the Patriots.

Turner didn't know that for sure, but he was pretty confident after Belichick had reached out to him a few months ago to get his review:

“Especially since he was one of the coaches Belichick called for a reference on Newton, with Turner offering a strong recommendation to the New England coach a couple months back.”

Turner believes that people are overlooking Newton because he has dealt with injuries, but he wants to remind people how good of a quarterback he was when he was healthy:

“My whole deal is, when Cam was healthy, and we were there with him [in 2018], we were 6–2,” Turner said last night. “Just look at the tape—played his ass off. His issue was more health than anything else, and from what I understand, I don’t think these are health issues that he can’t overcome. He’s had the time off now. I think he’ll be great.”

Right now it unclear exactly what the expectations are for Newton with the Patriots, but there is no doubt he will at least get a shot at the starting job.

If he can stay healthy, maybe he can keep New England competitive in the AFC.
