Boxing superstar Canelo Alvarez and Oscar De La Hoya are continuing their war of words, with Alvarez bombing on De La Hoya during a social media back-and-forth.

De La Hoya, who previously sponsored Alvarez as the owner of Golden Boy Promotions, responded to an Instagram video of Alvarez teaching a youngster. He criticized the WBA, WBC and WBO champion and claimed he was ducking Jermell Charlo:

“Please, this guy does everything wrong, head up when he throws hooks, on his heels, flat footed,” De La Hoya wrote, via Supreme Boxing on Instagram. “What else? Oh he avoids @twincharlo”

Canelo Alvarez did not mince words in his response. Canelo told De La Hoya where he can stick his comments, so to speak:

“Oh really? You want me to talk? F***ing traitor,” Canelo Alvarez said, via talkSPORT. “Do me a favour and go f*** yourself.”

Alvarez and De La Hoya have developed something of a contentious relationship after Alvarez's split from Golden Boy in November.

The Mexican superstar previously signed an 11-year deal to fight exclusively on DAZN, but sought to be released from his contract when DAZN and Golden Boy failed to come up with an opponent for him.

De La Hoya admitted he took it personally when Alvarez requested a split:

“You never want to part ways this way. It literally hurt my feelings,” De La Hoya said in December, via Dan Rafael of Boxing Scene. “I remember (Top Rank chairman and De La Hoya’s former promoter) Bob Arum once telling me when I was younger, ‘Don’t ever, ever make it personal with any fighter. Don’t ever make it personal.’ He obviously knows by experience. So I finally know what he’s talking about.”

In any event, it seems there is still plenty of bad blood between the two. Alvarez later made an allusion to De La Hoya's struggles with drug abuse and said he was more interested in the social scene than the fight business.

Alvarez is coming off a knockout victory over Billy Joe Saunders. His next opponent has yet to be determined.
