Much like the rest of the world, Canelo Alvarez doesn't think much of the upcoming June bout of Floyd Mayweather and YouTuber Logan Paul. After all, he knows it's all about money.

In an interview with Graham Bensinger, Alvarez shared that the fight is not really “relevant” at all since it is just an exhibition match between an inexperienced wannabe boxer and a retired veteran who has an immaculate 50-0 recorded throughout his boxing career. He also agreed with Bensinger that the fight is “stupid,” given the fact that it is really just about money and entertainment–which for some is a disgrace in the sport.

When asked about his prediction on who will win the fight, Alvarez got honest and shared that he found the question offensive. However, he did respond and noted that Mayweather is obviously the top dog who should easily dominate the fight.

Here's the interview, with Alvarez's comments on the Mayweather-Paul fight starting at the 2:45 mark.

For what it's worth, Canelo Alvarez is spot on with his comments though. The fact that Floyd Mayweather Jr.–considered one of the best boxers of his generation–is even willing to fight the popular internet personality in Logan Paul speaks volume about the real purpose of the fight: making money.

In fact, Alvarez even went on to express his concern about non-boxers being given licenses to fight, just like what happened in the Ben Askren-Jake Paul bout.

“Why do they give licenses to people who’ve never in their life thrown a punch?” Alvarez said, per Boxing 247. “If there’s a death, the commission will be responsible. Why? Because they issued the license for the fight.”

Then again, it is entertainment.

While it is certainly not a good look for the sport, especially for boxing purists who see the fight as a joke and a stain to the balance of the competition they long upheld, people still pay to watch such kinds of fights.

Floyd Mayweather and Logan Paul's fight was initially scheduled last February, but it has since been rescheduled to June 6, 2021. The two will face off in Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, though no other details about the fight and the undercards have been confirmed.
