There was a time when Jermaine Gresham was one of the better tight ends in the league. That feels like ages ago.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Arizona Cardinals are set to release Gresham this week, but will not officially do it until after the new league year begins due to salary cap reasons.

Gresham played in 13 games this past season, catching just nine passes for 94 yards.

The 30-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Oklahoma, was originally selected by the Cincinnati Bengals in the first round (21st pick overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft.

He appeared in 15 contests during his rookie campaign, registering 52 catches for 471 yards and four touchdowns. Then, the following year, Gresham hauled in 56 receptions for 596 yards while reaching the end zone six times en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.

The Ardmore, Ok. native then made another trip to Honolulu in 2012 after snaring 64 balls for 737 yards and five scores.

Since then, however, Gresham has been on the decline.

He followed up his back-to-back Pro Bowl campaigns by catching just 46 passes for 458 yards and four touchdowns in 2013, and then, in his final season with the Bengals in 2014, he tallied 62 receptions for 460 yards and five scores.

Gresham then proceeded to sign with the Cardinals, where he has been a major disappointment.

He accumulated just 18 catches for 223 yards and a touchdown during his first season with the club, and his best season since then came in 2016 when he totaled 37 receptions for 391 yards and a couple of scores.
