The Arizona Cardinals are building their roster for the future and they've chosen to extend one of their offensive weapons. According to Adam Schefter, Arizona has signed tight end Maxx Williams to a two-year extension.

Back in the offseason, the Cardinals signed Williams to provide some depth at the tight end position. So far, Williams has been behind veteran Charles Clay on the depth chart at tight end.

But with the limited number of opportunities, the versatile tight end has hauled in 11 passes for 139 yards and a touchdown. Kliff Kingsbury's offense doesn't utilize the tight end position much but they have been pleased with Williams' contributions thus far.

Williams began his career with the Baltimore Ravens as a second-round pick out of Minnesota. In his four seasons in Baltimore, the Minnesota product had accumulated 63 receptions for 497 yards and three touchdowns.

The Ravens fell in love with Williams due to his ability to be a weapon in the passing game and being able to block efficiently in the rushing attack. Unfortunately, the Ravens became overcrowded at tight end with Mark Andrews, Nick Boyle, and Hayden Hurst alongside Williams.

Therefore, Baltimore chose to allow Williams to walk in free agency and find a new team. Injuries have been an issue for Williams in his career. The fifth-year tight end has a chance to play all 16 games in the regular season for the first time in his career.

The extension that Williams signed on Saturday will keep him with the Cardinals through the 2021 season.
