It has been deemed a foregone conclusion that player protests will occur during the 2020 NFL season. Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray has been among the most outspoken players when it comes to his plans to take a stand.

Fortunately, it seems Murray is not the only one in Arizona with plans to kneel during the national anthem. According to Jeremy Cluff of the Arizona Republic, running back Kenyan Drake plans to do it alongside him:

“Kyler obviously is the undisputed leader of not only the offense, but the whole team,” Drake said. “To come out and be able to do that, obviously I respect him and I’ll be right next him doing the same thing. . . . It’s something we all need to stand up for and, I guess, take a knee for.”

It is encouraging to see Murray take that next step into emerging as a bonafide leader for the Cardinals. His efforts to address the issues of racial injustice given his status as a franchise cornerstone goes a long way for the other players in the locker room.

For Drake, Arizona is where he was able to get his career on track following an underwhelming stint with the Miami Dolphins. His efforts on the field earned him another one-year deal for the 2020 campaign and it is clear that he plans to take full advantage of it by going all in with his teammates.

Although the Cardinals are adamant about following through on the hype they generated this offseason, it is clear that the focus remains on fighting systemic racism at every turn.
