The Arizona Cardinals have undergone some major changes this offseason. As a result, a number of positions are currently up for grabs.

One of the biggest questions facing Arizona is which player will step into the role of No. 2 wideout behind Larry Fitzgerald. Wide receiver Brice Butler is among the candidates for the spot, via AZCentral.com:

“Yeah, I’m going to prove it,” Butler said. “That’s why I came here. I definitely didn’t come to not be on the field with Larry. But it’s not going to be given to me.”

There is good reason for Butler to be optimistic. He is coming off the best season of his five-year career in his finals stint with the Dallas Cowboys. He hauled in 15 receptions for 317 yards and three touchdowns in 12 games during the 2017 campaign. That said, it appears he is ready for an increased role in the offense.

Despite the new vacancy in Dallas. Butler decided to join Arizona following an eventful visit this offseason. Needless to say, the Cardinals lack some serious depth in the receiving corps. They still do considering all the unproven talent in this group. As a result, it seems Butler could be poised to step up as a secondary option in the passing game.

The former Cowboy is still going to have to battle it out with a number of other talented, young wideouts on the roster. Wide receiver J.J. Nelson has shown flashes of potential during his tenure with the Cardinals thus far while the team invested a second-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft on former Texas A&M wide receiver Christian Kirk. That said, Butler will face some stiff competition for the job.
