After finding out that star running back David Johnson would miss considerable time following wrist surgery, the Arizona Cardinals acted quickly by re-signing Chris Johnson.

Although Johnson was brought back in the fold in Arizona, it was thought to only be for insurance purposes with Kerwynn Williams and Andre Ellington expected to shoulder the workload. That no longer seems to be the case with head coach Bruce Arians seemingly ready to give the former All-Pro more carries in Week 3 against the Dallas Cowboys, according to Cardinals beat writer Kyle Odegard.

In the win over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 2, Johnson received the bulk of the carries for the Cardinals. The 31-year-old carried the football 11 times for 44 yards while Williams finished with 22 yards and Ellington added 11 yards.

Obviously, the Cardinals didn't have much of a ground game in Week 2 with the team racking up a total of 83 rushing yards. Johnson may be able to change that in Week 3 if given more carries as Arians claims will be the case against the Cowboys.

Although Johnson isn't the dominant back of old from his days with the Tennessee Titans,  the veteran is still capable of managing a large workload and may be able to help shoulder the load in the backfield for the time being.
