Second-year running back Chase Edmonds made history for the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday with two rushing touchdowns in the NFC West franchise's Week 7 matchup with the New York Giants, per ESPN.

The 23-year-old Edmonds has been filling in for David Johnson, the Cardinals' one-time Pro-Bowl rusher who is active today but has been nursing an ankle injury. The All-Pro running back Johnson was previously listed as questionable before being clear to play this morning.

Edmonds has turned into a dual threat player in the backfield for the Cardinals. He was selected by the team in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft, appearing in scattered snaps in 16 games his rookie season. Thus far, the 2019 season has seen Edmonds put up 161 rushing yards through six games, along with 179 receiving yards between this season and last.

Edmonds first scored on Arizona's opening drive—a 20-yard rush on the Cards' 13th play to find the end zone.

After picking off Giants rookie quarterback Daniel Jones, the Cardinals had great field position, with fellow rookie signal-caller—and first overall pick—Kyler Murray handing the ball off to the second-year rusher Edmonds on the third play of the drive. Again Edmonds rushed 20 yards for the score.

Despite the “Air Raid” offensive attack labeled for first-year Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury and company, Murray's offense has been immensely improved by the ground game, including Edmonds' efforts today.

The historic two first-quarter scores by the Fordham product could signal a greater work load on the ground for Edmonds.
