The Los Angeles Rams made yet another big splash move this offseason with the announcement that the team has agreed to a four-year extension with Todd Gurley that will be worth up to $60 million with $45 million guaranteed. This has immediately led to several reactions around the league from other tier running backs about the new record-setting deal that Gurley earned.

Among those was Arizona Cardinals David Johnson, who took to social media to congratulate his colleague while hinting at how this could impact his next contract.

Gurley's new deal should have a huge impact on the type of contracts many of the other top running backs in the league like Johnson will receive moving forward. The 26-year-old is currently heading into the fourth year of his $2.9 million rookie deal that will pay him $1.8 million for the 2018 campaign. Johnson has made it clear that he desires a new extension that will keep in Arizona for the next several years.

There has been no rush toward getting an extension hammered out this offseason, but Gurley's new contract should change things as Johnson has proven himself as one of the league's explosive offensive weapons. Although he missed almost all of the 2017 season due to a wrist injury, he put on display plenty of promise in his breakout 2016 where he set franchise records for yards from scrimmage (2,118) and touchdowns (20) while earning a Pro Bowl selection and a first-team All-Pro nod.

Johnson has also continued to show that he has made significant progress from his surgically-repaired wrist that should have him on the field to start the 2018 campaign. It will likely be in the Cardinals' best interest to have their star running back on a new long-term deal that will keep him in place in the backfield for the next several years.
