Arizona Cardinals wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins released his first statement after the NFL slapped him with a six-game suspension in the upcoming 2022 NFL season.

On Monday the NFL dropped the bombshell news that Hopkins has violated the league's Performance Enhancing Drugs policy, leading to his lengthy suspension. Apparently, Hopkins had traces of a banned substance in a test administered by the league back in November.

On Twitter, Hopkins broke his silence on the rather shocking development and denied knowingly taking in the banned substance found in his system. He also highlighted his clean history of never testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs until the latest results.

“In my 10-year NFL career, I have never tested positive for using performance enhancing drugs. To learn that my November test came back with trace elements of a banned substance, I was confused and shocked,” the Cardinals star wrote.

“I am very mindful of what I put in my body and have always taken a holistic approach, so I am working with my team to investigate how this could've happened. But even as careful as I have been, clearly I wasn't careful enough. For that, I apologize to Cardinals fans, my teammates, and the entire Cardinals organization. I never want to let my team down. I fully intend to get to the bottom of this. As soon as I have more information I will share it.”

For what it's worth, DeAndre Hopkins' brand manager said the same thing and vowed that they are going to test every product that the wide receiver has used to determine where the substance came from.

It remains to be seen if Hopkins will have enough proof to appeal the decision, but based on the tweet of the Cardinals star, he appears to be ready to accept the suspension no matter what happens.
