Arizona Cardinals wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins made his feelings well known driving by a brigade of supporters for Donald Trump on a local highway.

Hopkins was driving to State Farm Stadium for Sunday night's game against the Seattle Seahawks when he was photographed flipping the bird at Trump supporters:

Hopkins explained his rationale during an appearance on the latest iteration of the All Things Covered podcast.

The All-Pro wideout stated he did not mean to get caught up in the mix of the procession, but was treated to some less-than-friendly behavior on the road:

“Driving on the highway, I guess I got in between a bunch of cars that I wasn't supposed to be in between and they were honking the horn at me and stuff like that to tell me to get out of their way and I didn't and the guy in front of me stepped on his brakes and tried to stop dead traffic and I got around him and stuck him a birdie,” Hopkins said, via Jimmy Traina of Sports Illustrated.

Hopkins also jokingly stated he intended to throw up a “peace” sign instead:

“I really was about to do the peace sign to him but this index, this finger right here was kinda hurting and it didn't make it up in time.”

The gestures garnered mixed reactions from the public. Hopkins, meanwhile, went out and had 10 catches for 103 yards and a score later that same night.

Some Arizonans might be displeased with Hopkins' decision to express himself in that manner, but they can hardly be upset with his immense production this season.

Hopkins leads the NFL in both receptions (57) and receiving yards (704), and has been an absolutely vital part of Arizona's offense as the Cardinals have taken the NFC West by storm.
