Arizona Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson is making his return from a six-game suspension this week, and with the rebuilding Cardinals sitting at 2-3-1, there has been some speculation that they could trade Peterson before the Week 8 deadline.

However, general manager Steve Keim insists that Peterson won't be dealt:

“I don't know why the questions persist because I have addressed it multiple times: We are not trading Patrick Peterson,” Keim said on KMVP 98.7 FM. “Our stance has simply been: ‘Why trade a player in his prime at one of the hardest positions to find for a maybe or a couple maybes?' Love what Pat brings to the locker room, love what he brings to the field. Those positions are impossible to find: left tackles, quarterbacks, corners. There's no doubt, in my opinion, he is the best in the National Football League and will remain a Cardinal.”

Peterson, who played his collegiate football at LSU, was originally selected by the Cardinals with the fifth overall pick of the 2011 NFL Draft and immediately stamped his name among the best cornerbacks in football, making the Pro Bowl and earning a First-Team All-Pro selection during his rookie campaign.

The 29-year-old went on to make the Pro Bowl in each of his first eight NFL seasons, playing in every single game.

He was then hit with a six-game ban this past offseason for violating the league's performance-enhancing drug policy, marking the first time in Peterson's career that he missed time.

Peterson is under contract through the end of next season.
