After previously employing versatile defensive players such as Deone Bucannon and Tyrann “Honey Badger” Mathieu, the Arizona Cardinals have yet another in the desert in former Clemson Tigers Swiss Army Knife Isaiah Simmons. With Simmons, by far the most versatile player — offensively or defensively — in this year's NFL Draft class, somehow falling to the Cardinals at No. 8 overall, the soon-to-be rookie defender who can seemingly play every position is now gearing up for his first season atop the highest level.

With things becoming more and more official by the day at this point in the offseason, Simmons has notably selected No. 48 after sporting No. 11 at Clemson. Unable to wear No. 11 for the Cardinals due to both his spot on defense and the fact that longtime Arizona wide receiver and future Pro Football Hall of Famer Larry Fitzgerald owns it, Simmons recently opened up about his decision to tab No. 48.

“48, something I learned just the more and more I learned about Arizona day by day is it was the 48th state, so there is some significance right there,” Simmons said upon speaking to reporters on Monday, via USA TODAY Sports.

During his standout collegiate tenure at Clemson, Simmons put his skill set on full display en route to playing inside linebacker, outside linebacker, and a variety of different positions in the defensive secondary as well.

“I feel I’m going to look good in [No. 48], so that’s really the reason,” Simmons made sure to add while speaking with reporters.

It remains to be seen as to where exactly the first-year defender lines up for the Cardinals in 2020, but the easy answer is probably everywhere.
