Arizona Cardinals star defensive tackle J.J. Watt and Reebok are teaming up to honor franchise icon Pat Tillman with his newest signature shoe.

Reebok unveiled the JJ IV Valor, a shoe Watt began designing before signing with the Cardinals. The three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year also enlisted the help of Tillman's widow, Marie.

Watt had previously said Tillman, who was killed in the line of duty in April of 2004, was one of his idols during his introductory press conference with the Cardinals:

“What he stood for, who he was and everything about his legacy is unbelievable to me,” Watt said, via Josh Weinfuss of ESPN. “So, to be here, to be walking the same halls that he walked and to see his locker today was special for me.”

Tillman was a seventh-round pick for the Cardinals in 1998 after starring at Arizona State. He became renowned for his spirit and intensity at the free safety position, but his calling was in military service.

Tillman turned down a $3.6 million deal with the Cardinals in 2002 to enlist in the U.S. Army. He was killed by friendly fire a little less than two years later.

There have petitions to get Tillman's number retired league-wide. He also has a statue outside State Farm Stadium in Phoenix. Now, one of the best players and humanitarians in football is finding another way to honor his legacy.

Reebok will donate $10 to the Pat Tillman Foundation for each shoe sold up to $10,000, with Watt donating all personal proceeds to the Pat Tillman Foundation.

The Cardinals newcomer is preparing for his opening chapter in Arizona, but is also taking the time to honor franchise heroes of the past.
