The Arizona Cardinals were unable to put the finishing touches on a comeback against the San Francisco 49ers. Fortunately, they can take solace in the fact that their trade for running back Kenyan Drake has gotten off to a solid start.

Drake enjoyed quite the Cardinals debut in Week 9. His efforts were recognized by NFL Twitter:

The Cardinals were have been dealing with injuries to their backfield and found themselves shorthanded after David Johnson and Chase Edmonds were sidelined against the 49ers. As a result, they were forced to make a bit of a splash with the acquisition of Drake in exchange for a conditional sixth-round pick. It is safe to say that he has managed to make quite the impression on his new teammates.

Drake nearly matched his career-high in rushing yards with 110 on 15 carries for a whopping 7.3 yards per carry. He also flashed his prowess as a receiver with four receptions for 52 yards. His efforts are even more impressive considering it came against this formidable 49ers defense in his first week with the Cardinals after just being traded.

It appears the change-of-scenery was just what Drake needed to get his career on the right track following an underwhelming tenure in Miami. Although he was able to make some waves in his debut with Arizona, the backfield is slated to get much more crowded with the looming return of Johnson and Edmonds. It will be interesting to see if Drake is able to etch out an integral role for himself before then.
