The Arizona Cardinals are not playing for much with three games left in the 2019 NFL season. As a result, head coach Kliff Kingsbury is already planning his pitch for wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald in the offseason.

It is no secret that Fitzgerald has long been contemplating retirement. Kingsbury admits he will be doing what he can to convince him to stick around, via Darren Urban of the Cardinals website.

“I’ll give him my pitch here in a couple of weeks,” Kingsbury said

Kingsbury's comments are certainly understandable. Although Fitzgerald is well past his prime, he is still one of the most sure-handed wideouts in the league. Having a veteran player of his caliber around has undoubtedly paid huge dividends for quarterback Kyler Murray in the passing game.

Despite the emergence of wideout Christian Kirk, Fitzgerald still managed to finish as the team's leading receiver with 64 receptions for 669 yards and three touchdowns. The 36-year-old proved that he still has plenty left in the tank after serving as a safety net for Murray on offense. Kingsbury is hoping that they can keep that connection up in Arizona for at least another season.

Of course, it remains to be seen if Fitzgerald is still up to the task of helping this rebuilding team find its footing. The decision has become a year-to-year question for him at this point in his illustrious career. It is safe to say that he will sit back and watch how the offseason plays out before ultimately revealing his plans.
