Thursday was an exciting night for all Arizona Cardinals fans, as they got their first look at quarterback Kyler Murray. The number one overall pick played in one drive against the Los Angeles Chargers, and wasn't good or bad. Murray's comments at halftime reflected this.

“I thought it was decent” Murray told the Cardinals Wire. “I wanted to go score, so my only mindset was go score,” he said. “We brought it out and unfortunately didn’t finish the job.”

The former Oklahoma Sooner was put in a tough spot on his first NFL drive. He got the ball on his own two yard line, and would've had to drive at least 70 yards to have a shot at any points. While the Chargers were resting most of their starters, it was a tough spot for any rookie signal-caller.

Murray ended up completing six of his seven pass attempts for 44 yards on his one drive.

The real scrutiny of the 2019 season probably won't fall to Murray, or any of his teammates, but with head coach Kliff Kingsbury. Kingsbury was easily the most controversial hire of 2019, as he had just been fired from his head coaching job at Texas Tech University. He was set to take the offensive coordinator job with the University of Southern California Trojans, but the Cards called him up. Kingsbury of course jumped ship for the NFL.

While he is regarded as an offensive guru, he led the Red Raiders to only two winning seasons during his six years there. But the Cardinals placed their bets on Kingsbury, and now it's his job to help Kyler Murray excel in the NFL.
