Kyler Murray has had a tale of two games. Against the Oakland Raiders in preseason Week 2, the Arizona Cardinals quarterback struggled; as he went 3-for-8 for 12 yards. The next week, he did well against the Minnesota Vikings while playing nearly a full half of football. For the game, the No. 1 overall pick went 14-for-21 for 137 yards.

Though the Cardinals didn't record a touchdown on the day, Murray felt better about his performance in Minnesota than the one a week before.

“Knowing we’re not playing next week, nobody wants to come out here today and lay an egg,” Murray said, via the Cardinals official website. “We didn’t put the ball in the end zone, but we sustained drives this week and I think we were more consistent. Everybody felt better about the way we played.”

The Redbirds are coming off of two preseason losses. But, in the grand scheme of things, that doesn't matter. For the former Heisman Trophy winner, the preseason and training camp has been a time to gain confidence before Week 1. He believes the team has accomplished that.

“I think everybody’s gained confidence about what’s going on, as a whole,” Murray said. “You build that through practice, working hard. Obviously we haven’t played a real game yet, but it’s going to get real here pretty soon. We’ll see what everybody’s about.”

Murray likely won't play the fourth preseason game of 2019 — as starters rarely do.

So, he'll need to carry that confidence for two more weeks for a Week 1 game against the Detroit Lions on September 8th.
