The Arizona Cardinals will face the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, meaning that Kyler Murray will be on the opposite side of the field of his former collegiate teammate in Baker Mayfield.

Their paths are awfully similar. Both quarterbacks won the Heisman Trophy in their final years at the University of Oklahoma, both went No. 1 overall in their respective drafts and both won the starting job under center during their rookie campaigns.

But just because Murray has followed a similar trajectory as Mayfield does not mean he wants to emulate him in everything he does:

“I would never do some of the stuff he’s done,” Murray said jokingly on Wednesday, according to Katherine Fitzgerald of The Arizona Republic. “But no, that’s my boy. He knows that. I just let him do his thing and you just laugh at him. … Everybody has their own way of doing things. He was a great teammate, a great leader. Everybody around the building felt that. When it was my opportunity, you know, I lead how I lead and he leads how he leads.”

Murray and Mayfield are certainly two very different people, with Murray being a bit more reserved while Mayfield has never been one to curb his tongue.

The Cardinals signal-caller is looking forward to facing Mayfield this weekend:

“I haven’t seen him for a while,” Murray said. “It’s going to be kind of special just to be on the same field. To play against him is obviously special.”

Murray is having a fantastic rookie campaign while Mayfield has fallen victim to the sophomore slump in his second season.
