The Arizona Cardinals matchup against the Detroit Lions in the 2019 NFL season opener marks the beginning of the Kyler Murray era. It seems he is already slated to make history in his first career start.

There is plenty of hype surrounding the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft going into Week 1. According to Scott Bordow of TheAthletic.com, Murray will become the first rookie quarterback to start a season opener since Lamar McHan did it back in 1954:

The last rookie to start at quarterback for the Cardinals in a season opener was Lamar McHan in 1954.

Although things did not go smoothly for McHan that year, the Cardinals are optimistic that Murray will fare much better this time around. After all, they have made quite the investment in recent years during their efforts to secure a franchise quarterback.

There is certainly no shortage of debates regarding how Murray will fare in the NFL. The Cardinals have seemingly added to the noise by keeping their Air Raid offense under wraps during the preseason. The time has now come for them to prove that the elements of their new scheme can be effective at the next level.

Some of the biggest concerns surrounding Murray have been his size and accuracy in the pocket. Fortunately, he does not seem to be too riled up by all the criticisms going into his rookie campaign.

This sort of confidence will undoubtedly go a long way for him as he hopes to lead a potential resurgence on offense this season.
