Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald has decided to come back for at least one more season, and a lot of that had to do with the fact that the Cardinals had a bad year in 2018.

“We had a really bad season last year, and I just didn’t want to go out on that level,” Fitzgerald said on The Mina Kimes Show, via Kyle Odegard of the Cardinals' official team website. “You’ve got to live the rest of your life knowing you went out on that level. …At the end of the year, I felt like this was not [the year to retire].”

While Fitzgerald is no longer the dominant force he once was, he is still effective, as evidenced by the fact that he hauled in 69 receptions for 734 yards and six touchdowns this past season.

The 35-year-old understands this, but he knows he can still help the team:

“I still enjoy it and I can still play,” Fitzgerald said. “I’m not the player that I was 10 years ago, but I can still go out there and contribute. I can make plays. I can be somebody who can situationally really help the team and make explosive plays for my group.”

Fitzgerald has played 15 seasons in the NFL, and over that time, he has made 11 Pro Bowl appearances while earning a First-Team All-Pro selection back in 2008.

He has led the NFL in receiving touchdowns twice while pacing the league in receptions once.

One day, he will surely be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
