Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald has not been putting up his usually stellar numbers this season. Through six games, he’s got just 22 catches for 215 yards with no touchdowns. Fitzgerald’s father, Larry Sr., believes it’s the Cardinals coaches’ fault for his son’s disappointing stats.

Fitzgerald made some critical comments about offensive coordinator Mike McCoy during the Cardinals’ loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Twitter, which he later deleted.

“Are you kidding me, Mike McCoy,” Fitzgerald Sr. wrote, per ABC15. “Larry Fitzgerald not even on the field? Vikings stuff Cardinals! At 1 yard line.”

Fitzgerald Sr. also believes first-year Cardinals head coach Steve Wilks deserves criticism for bringing in McCoy in the first place.

“Tough to win in the NFL Steve Wilks appears to have put offense in questionable hands,” Fitzgerald Sr. wrote. “Larry Fitzgerald has never gone 6 games without a TD.”

While Fitzgerald Sr. has a point about the Cardinals coaches having a part to play in the offense’s struggles, they may not all be to blame for Larry Jr.’s down year.

The veteran wideout may finally be slowing down at age 36 years of age and has been banged up with injuries for basically the entire year. There’s also the significant matter of the quarterback situation, which hasn’t helped the great receiver.

Still, McCoy and Wilks deserve the criticism Fitzgerald Sr. has placed on them. And while he’ll never admit it publicly, Fitzgerald may privately feel the same frustration as his dad in that his possible last season in the NFL is going so poorly.
