The Arizona Cardinals could be on the verge of being without running back James Conner for another pivotal game at this late stage in the season.

Conner did not feature in the Cardinals' scheduled practice session on Wednesday due to his heel injury. He reportedly did make his return to the practice field on Thursday, although the team officially listed him as out for the day’s session.

As it stands, there is still plenty of uncertainty as to Conner’s status for Arizona’s upcoming Week 17 clash with the Dallas Cowboys. Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury noted during his press conference on Wednesday that the versatile running back may likely be a game-day decision for this week.

Kingsbury also listed Conner as a game-day decision for the Cardinals’ Week 16 home matchup with the Indianapolis Colts. ESPN’s Adam Schefter initially noted that Conner was “expected” to play in the game, although the fifth-year running back did not make enough “progress” from his injury to earn the green light to feature in the contest.

Conner has been dealing with the nagging ankle injury since the Cardinals’ Week 15 road loss to the Detroit Lions, which forced him to miss each of the team’s trio of practices last week.

The Cardinals are also keeping an eye on running back Chase Edmonds, who has been limited in practice this week due to a back injury.

Arizona heads into Week 17 still alive in the NFC West race, although a loss coupled with a Los Angeles Rams win over the Baltimore Ravens would see head coach Sean McVay’s team celebrate a division title this week.
