New Arizona Cardinals head coach Steve Wilks is hard at work trying to find his new offensive coordinator. After interviewing former Seattle Seahawks OC Darrell Bevell, Wilks and the Cards have also lined up an interview with former Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy.

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter:

Former Seahawks' OC Darrell Bevell has wrapped up his interview in Arizona for Cardinals' OC and is pondering his options, per source; Cardinals also plan to speak with former Broncos' OC Mike McCoy, per source.

McCoy spent the 2017 season as the offensive coordinator of the Broncos, his second stint in that role with the team. However, he was fired in the middle of the season after Denver went on a disastrous six-game losing skid.

In between his stints as Broncos OC, McCoy also coached the then-San Diego Chargers for four seasons. After back-to-back 9-7 seasons, the Chargers went just 9-23 in McCoy’s last two years in charge.

While the Broncos were 20th in total offense, they were just 27th in points per game under McCoy in 2017 as they finished as the second-most inefficient offense in the leaguer per DVOA. They shuffled through Trevor Siemian, Paxton Lynch, and Brock Osweiler at starting quarterback, none of whom impressed.

Arizona currently faces similar uncertainty at the quarterback position following the retirement of veteran Carson Palmer. The status of star receiver Larry Fitzgerald also remains up in the air. However, the Cardinals do have one of the most dynamic offensive weapons in the entire league in David Johnson, which will help ease the load on the incoming offensive coordinator.
