Patrick Peterson is not used to missing time.

Since entering the NFL as a first-round draft pick of the Arizona Cardinals back in 2011, Peterson played in every game over the first eight years of his career, making the Pro Bowl every season.

But this past offseason, the cornerback was hit with a six-game suspension for violating the league's performance enhancing drugs policy, ending his consecutive games streak.

Now, Peterson, who will be a free agent at the end of 2020, is eligible to return and is expected to be back in the lineup when the Cardinals take on the New York Giants this Sunday, and he hopes it is the start of “the 10 best games” of his career, per Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk.

“I’m here. I have a contract with the Cardinals for 10 games and next season,” Peterson said. “Whatever happens after that is pretty much out of my control. … Just happy to be back to help my guys get better. We’ve got a lot of football left. October is the meat of the season and I’m just focusing on that right now.”

With Arizona in rebuilding mode and sitting on a 2-3-1 record, there has been some speculation that the Cardinals could trade Peterson before the Week 8 deadline, and some teams are said to be interested in dealing for him.

However, Peterson appears focused on performing for his current Arizona club, and back in July, he said he wants to remain a Cardinal for life. But, this is a business, and it would not be shocking if the star defensive back is wearing a different uniform come Week 9.
