Arizona Cardinals star cornerback Patrick Peterson apologized on Thursday just a few hours after it was announced he would miss the first six games of the season for PED use. The PED suspension was announced on Thursday, the same day of his celebrity golf tournament.

“Definitely, definitely sorry [for] what broke out today, but for the most part, I think you guys understand my character and also understand my commitment on and off the field, and also to my teammates, and also to the Arizona Cardinals organization,” Peterson said in a statement to the local media at the 2019 Patrick Peterson Celebrity Golf Tournament via NFL.com.

“That's why this is apparently very, very hard for me because I've obviously never been in this situation before and never wanted to have my name attached to anything like this. But I'm looking to move forward and put this behind me.”

Some players who use PED's are only suspended for four games but a six-game suspension means Peterson used a PED and also a masking agent to try and cover it up. Peterson knew the suspension was in the works for about a month and although he is disappointed that he will be missing times he is relieved that it is out in the open now.

Peterson will miss the first six games against the Detroit Lions, Baltimore Ravens, Carolina Panthers, Cincinnati Bengals, and Atlanta Falcons. The first chance to see him on the field will be week seven against Eli Manning (or Daniel Jones) and the New York Giants.
