The Arizona Cardinals managed to stabilize their quarterback situation with the arrival of Sam Bradford. However, it seems he is well aware that he still has some work to do before the start of the 2018 NFL season.

Bradford essentially missed the entire 2017 campaign with a lingering knee injury. It is for that reason he feels the need to get some playing time during the preseason, according to Darren Urban of the team website.

“I think getting out there, especially after not playing a ton this past year . . . you can only simulate so much in practice,” Bradford said. “There is only so much live work you can get in practice, with people around you in the pocket, getting a feel for the pocket, feeling when the ball has to come out. Getting in there in the preseason and getting some of that awareness back, there is definitely some benefit to that.”

Veterans like Bradford are usually not expected to get much work in during the preseason. Especially ones that are coming off an injury-plagued year. However, it makes sense that he would want to shake as much rust off as possible by the time the season rolls around.

Bradford was able to find his footing with the Minnesota Vikings. Unfortunately, he was ultimately sidelined by the wear and tear from his previous ACL injuries. He now joins a Cardinals team that is looking to bounce back from a disappointing 2017 campaign in a suddenly-competitive NFC West Division. That said, it will be interesting to see how much Arizona allows him to play in the preseason.
