The St. Louis Cardinals got off to a hot start against the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday, so much so that they even made history in the process.

St. Louis didn't waste any time in their efforts in the showdown and hit four straight homers in the first inning alone. Nolan Arenado opened the floodgates for the Cardinals, and Nolan Gorman, Juan Yepez and Dylan Carlson all followed suit with a homer of their own to get things going at Citizens Bank Park.

Prior to the incredible showing, the Cardinals never had a time when four players hit home runs consecutively. Overall in MLB history, it is only the 11th time it happened–which speaks volumes of how rare of an occurrence it is.

Interestingly, the last time it happened, it was the Cardinals who were giving up home runs easily. Back in August 2020, pitcher Roel Ramirez had a hard time against the Chicago White Sox and allowed the Windy City franchise to hit four consecutive homers, per MLB.com.

The Cardinals ended up winning against the Phillies 7-6. While they failed to replicate their hot start in the proceeding innings, they did enough to take the W. Philadelphia did tie the game at 6-6 in the sixth inning, but a late mishap saw the Cards retake the lead and the victory.

It was definitely a historic night for St. Louis, and as they contend for the top record in the National League, they will need performances more performances like they showed on Saturday.
