It is no secret that the Arizona Cardinals are coming off an injury-riddled 2017 NFL season. That said, head coach Steve Wilks is happy to be getting a fresh start with a healthy squad.

The one player who has Wilks feeling extra giddy is running back David Johnson. According to Mike Jurecki on Twitter, he was happy to see Johnson back out on the field:

“He looked outstanding today,” Wilks said. “It’s good to have him back out there just flying around. The things that he’s doing right now is pretty exciting.”

Wilks comments should hardly come as any surprise. Arizona's problems last year all began when he went down in the season opener. Johnson was poised to follow up on his MVP-caliber year in 2016. Unfortunately, a lingering forearm injury ultimately left the Cardinals without their workhorse back.

When healthy, Johnson is one of the most dynamic running backs in the league. His versatile skill set as a three-down back makes him an integral part of the offense. That said, Wilks is undoubtedly looking forward to feeding him the bulk of the carries once again.

The Cardinals have done their best to surround him with complementary pieces like quarterback Sam Bradford and wide receiver Brice Butler. Unfortunately, Bradford's lingering health issues raises questions about his availability moving forward.

Arizona managed to secure their potential future franchise quarterback in Josh Rosen. However, it is clear that Johnson will still be at the forefront of any success they enjoy on offense this season.
