Most of the criticism last year of the Arizona Cardinals was about the offense but the defense wasn't strong either and new defensive coordinator Vance Joseph wants to change that. The Cardinals defense was ranked 2oth in the league last year giving up 358.8 yards and 26.6 points per game.

Joseph is changing the defense from a 4-3 to a 3-4 and the new attitude in the players will help the team go back to being ranked in the top ten.

“We’re going to get back to playing top-10 defense here in Arizona,” he said in a team staff meeting, via the trailer for the next episode of “Cardinals Flight Plan transcribed by CardsWire.”

He calls the transition from a 4-3 defense to a 3-4 scheme “exciting.”

“It’s new players, it’s a new scheme, it’s a new attitude,” he said.

Kliff Kingsbury has called Joseph one of the best defensive minds in the league and is putting a lot of the trust into him to turn it around.

There are a lot of new parts to the defense but Joseph had a clear plan with the guys that were brought in. He brought in veterans that still have a lot left to prove. He also brought in guys who he has worked with before, and has trust in.

The players haven't even put on pads yet so these are high expectations for a team that still needs to gel together, but it has been made clear what the goal is. Get this defense in the top ten by the end of the season.
