Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator Vance Joseph hopes for a rebound with his new team next year.

The 46-year-old coach was dismissed from the Denver Broncos after a 6-10 season, and an 11-21 record in two years with the Broncos.

From Josh Alper of NBC Sports:

“When you’re fired and it’s said, ‘You’re not good enough,’ that hurts,” Joseph said, via the Cardinals website. “I wanted a job where I could go in and put my scheme in, the 3-4 attack scheme, and have a chance to re-prove myself. That’s the bottom line.”

Joseph spent 11 years coaching defensive backs with the 49ers, Texans and Bengals before becoming the Dolphins' defensive coordinator in 2016, prior to his tenure in Denver. The Broncos had the seventh-highest blitz rate at 31.5 percent under Joseph's 3-4 defense in the 2018-19 season.

The Broncos acquired cornerback Robert Alford and defensive end/linebacker Brooks Reed this week to bolster the spirit of Joseph's defensive strategy with his new team.

“When you’re a 4-3 scheme, your four rushers are obvious,” Joseph told Logan Newman of Arizona Sports.com. “Offensively, it makes it a little easy, right? They find your best rusher, they scheme it … and it’s done.”

Perhaps Joseph will get his career back on track in the 2019-20 campaign.
