Arizona Cardinals' wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald added yet another record to his resume. His first catch of the day versus the Detroit Lions was the fifteen-year veteran's 1,282nd career reception, the most by any player with one team in NFL history.

He surpassed hall of fame Jerry Rice who caught 1,281 passes in his sixteen seasons with the San Fransisco 49ers. Rice also added another 268 in four years with the Oakland Raiders, and 11 games with the Seattle Seahawks.

Fitzgerald has been a security blanket for rookie quarterback Josh Rosen, he leads the team with 52 receptions and is second only to rookie receiver Christian Kirk with 563 receiving yards. However, Kirk has been placed on the injured reserve with a broken foot, so Fitzgerald should overtake him next week.

The record came in a losing effort to Detroit. The Cardinals were held scoreless until the fourth quarter and fell to 3-10 with the 17-3 loss. Fitzgerald ended the day with five receptions for 55 yards, 1,286 for his career.

Earlier in the year, Fitzgerald moved into third place on the all-time receptions list. He trails only tight end Tony Gonzalez, who has 1,325 career catches, and Rice who has 1,549. Fitzgerald will be a free agent at the end of the year and has previously said he'll only play for the Cardinals or retire.

He'll look to close the gap on Gonzalez in the team's final three games of the year. They'll travel to Atlanta to face off with the Falcons next week, then host the Los Angles Rams before closing out the season in Seattle against the Seahawks.
