The Arizona Cardinals had a disappointing 2019 despite the strong rookie showing by Kyler Murray. One of the main reasons for their struggles is the lack of proper wide receivers, so the Arizona front office is looking to address that problem immediately in the offseason.

They already managed to make a terrific inclusion to the squad in the form of former Houston Texans standout DeAndre Hopkins, but it seems like there are more things in store for Cardinals fans moving forward. According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, they will not stop with Hopkins' acquisition: they will also look to add more wide receivers to the team over the coming weeks.

He points out that they have one advantage over other teams when it comes to targeting big free-agent wideouts this offseason: they have the advantage of not paying their franchise quarterback big money over the next couple of years. GM Steve Keim is confident that he'll be able to surround Murray with the right talent before September.

The ammunition: Murray's modest $8.08-million cap hit in the second year of his rookie deal. That number ranks 24th among quarterbacks in 2020.

“They have a window with a talented quarterback on a rookie contract and are all-in right now,” the exec said. “As they should be.”

His $8 million wage bill is meager for the level of production he put up during his rookie campaign. He ended 2019 with 3722 passing yards and 20 touchdowns. Since he still has a relatively meager pay, they should be able to surround him with the right talent. As much as Larry Fitzgerald is still a good player, his 804 receiving yards just won't cut it.

They will take the road traveled by the Kansas City Chiefs with Patrick Mahomes. If things work out like planned, they should be able to compete for a Super Bowl in relatively short order.
