The Arizona Cardinals have not been among the more active NFC teams in free agency, but they could push to bring back a notable talent for the 2022 season.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, it is not “off the table” that the Cardinals could re-sign wide receiver A.J. Green. Arizona would “very much want him back” for the 2022 campaign.

After a nine-year run with the Cincinnati Bengals, Green opted to join the Cardinals last year on a one-year, $8.5 million deal, with $6 million of it being guaranteed.

Even as his prime days are well behind him, Green proved to be a reliable target for quarterback Kyler Murray over the course of the 2021 season. The veteran wideout featured in 16 regular season contests and also played in 75.7 percent of snaps on offense, which ranked at second among receivers on the team.

The seven-time Pro Bowler finished the season with 54 receptions and 848 receiving yards.

Fowler further adds that the Cardinals had a “good experience” with Green. Overall, it remains to be seen whether the two sides may soon come to terms on a free agent deal.

With Christian Kirk’s move to the Jacksonville Jaguars and Green’s current status as a free agent, Rondale Moore is slated to be Murray’s No. 2 wideout option for the upcoming campaign. Moore had a promising sophomore season with the Cardinals that included 54 receptions in 14 games played, but head coach Kliff Kingsbury did note during the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine period that with Kirk and Green in the fold, the team was not “able to get him [Moore] out on the field as much as we would've liked.”

Whether in the remainder of free agency or in the 2022 NFL Draft, Arizona sure will have its fair share of options to bolster its wideout depth.
