The Arizona Cardinals were one of the many teams looking for a quarterback in NFL free agency this offseason. Following the retirement of Carson Palmer, the team was forced to fill the void and they were reportedly able to do that with the addition of veteran Sam Bradford.

Although the team will seemingly move forward with Bradford under center next season, the Cardinals were hoping to land one-time Super Bowl champion, Drew Brees. Despite Brees being a longshot to leave the New Orleans, Arizona expressed their interest with an offer extended to the superstar quarterback, according to Lee Shapiro of Mile High Sports Radio.

Apparently, the Cardinals may have made a strong pitch to Brees. According to ESPN's Mike Triplett, one team not named the Saints offered him a fully-guaranteed deal worth $60 million.

And a source said that at least one other team was willing to give Brees $60 million guaranteed over two years to try and woo him away from New Orleans.

With the Saints being a potential title contender next season and the fact that no one saw Brees leaving New Orleans, it's not all that surprising that he ended up signing a new deal with the team he never wanted to leave in the first place.

However, the Cardinals potentially offering $23 million more in guaranteed money over the next two seasons to a player approaching 40 is an indication how much they wanted him in Arizona. The Saints were only willing to give Brees $27 million guaranteed on his deal which is worth $50 million over two years.

Fortunately for Arizona, the team was able to get one of the quarterbacks on the open market with Bradford agreeing to a deal. Although he's no Brees, Bradford may be a good option if he's able to stay healthy in Arizona.
