Before ending up as head coach of the Dallas Mavericks, Rick Carlisle held the same role with the Detroit Pistons and the Indiana Pacers first.

Through his years of coaching, he has had the opportunity to take a lot of players under his wings. But there's one player who he thinks has the potential to be a good coach in the future: Metta World Peace of the Los Angeles Lakers.

The two worked together in Indiana from 2004-2006 and had a good relationship. Carlisle knows that despite the erratic behavior the player formerly known as Ron Artest has shown in the past, that's not the case anymore and he has now matured. He also discussed why he thinks the Lakers have him in their roster.

“He’s got a chance to be a good coach because he’s passionate and knowledgeable about the game.”

“In the meantime, (the Lakers) have him here for a reason. He’s setting a great example.”

Despite believing that he'll still be around basketball after his playing years, Carlisle said he respects knowing that World Peace is still looking to play in the league for some more years and has taken care of his body for him to make that possible.

“He keeps informing me that he’s in too great of shape and having too much fun to give it up right now. You have to respect that.”

Should World Peace try his hand at coaching once he retires, he'll be able to share knowledge that made him an NBA champion during the 2009-2010 season. It won't be surprising as well if his team would be made-up of blue-collared players as that's how he's been known throughout his playing career.
