On Monday, NBA legend Michael Jordan issued a statement on recent police violence in the United States and donated $2 million to the Institute for Community-Police Relations and the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. Current New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony, who himself has recently been very vocal about tension throughout the country, is happy that Jordan is taking a stand.

Via ESPN's Marc J. Spears:

“The Michael Jordan thing it was brilliant and about time… He is our face.”

Considered by many as the greatest player of all-time, Jordan is certainly the face of basketball by fans around the world. With more and more high-profile athletes speaking out about the country's issues – including not only Jordan and Anthony but also LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Paul – hopefully real change will soon follow.
