The New York Knicks fired Derek Fisher earlier this season. It was a bit shocking at the time as the thought was that he was going to be around for a while to be the coach for Phil Jackson and to incorporate the triangle offense effectively. Obviously, that didn't happen.

For one reason or another, Fisher was fired and Kurt Rambis quickly replaced him. Phil Jackson has made it known that he wants to keep Rambis in the Knicks organization, but that his role may very well change from head coach. Jackson really likes Rambis and may end up having him be the head coach of the Knicks for the foreseeable future.

One player who should (and will) have a lot of say in this matter will be Carmelo Anthony. Last night, it was revealed who Melo wants to be head coach.

From Frank Isola of the New York Daily News:

“A source close to Anthony insists that his preferred choice is Tom Thibodeau, a coach Jackson seems to have no interest in speaking to.”

Tom Thibodeau is a great coach who knows the game well. Melo has always had a bond with Thibodeau and respects him greatly. While Jackson does not seem to currently have any interest in speaking with Thibodeau, he should at least have a discussion with him as Tom Thibodeu could be a great coach for the Knicks.
