Make no mistake, the triangle offense era with the New York Knicks is over after the departure of team president Phil Jackson.

From all accounts, none of the players were enamored with the system and wanted to play a more free style of basketball under head coach Jeff Hornacek.

There was one moment where at least one of the players saw a bit of daylight in the offensive scheme though, even giving it a little praise.

Kristaps Porzingis may have bought into the triangle initially, but his curiosity was stopped short very quickly by Carmelo Anthony.

According to The New York Post's Marc Berman, Anthony became livid with the Unicorn's optimistic viewpoint and gave him a verbal lashing for it:

“Melo really chewed him out, lit into him.”

Porzingis wanted to believe the team could be successful under the somewhat complicated system, especially after a midseason win in Orlando where he tried to encourage his teammates to give it a chance.

“I like the triangle. My first season, the whole first season we played nothing but the triangle so I know it pretty well. I like the offense. It can only work if everybody believes in it and everybody executes it the right way.”

Now that Jackson is gone, there is a slim to none chance that anything resembling a geometric shape will ever be a part of the Knicks' offense.
