Months after resisting to drop his no-trade clause, Carmelo Anthony‘s camp has engaged in buyout talks with the New York Knicks, despite his preference to stay in town, according to ESPN's Marc Stein.

The Knicks have been reportedly resistant to the idea of a buyout if it sequences a potential move to the Cleveland Cavaliers, resulting in a possibly never-ending stalemate of a situation.

Melo has complete power to void any trade due to his no-trade clause, one of only three players in the league that have an ace of that kind in their back pocket along with LeBron James and Dirk Nowitzki.

As it is, New York will be forced to eat up the remainder of his contract, a massive $54.1 million sum through the next two years, which would make him an even less-desirable unrestricted free agent at the age of 35.

This exchange between Anthony's camp and the Knicks organization is the collision between two parties that just fail to budge unless they get their absolute way, with president Phil Jackson still hellbent on getting a massive return for any trade proposal and even wanting to decide where his star forward will land upon being bought out.

Anthony has all the chips on his side, as he has expressed his preference for staying in the Big Apple and has handled all his contractual inquiries very professionally thus far. The 6-foot-8 forward could sit back and play out the next two years without a worry, making every cent of his hefty veteran deal until he's contract-free in 2019.
