Last season for the Carolina Panthers, Greg Olsen hardly played with the team last season. They desperately need to add some depth behind Olsen. Tyler Eifert would be a perfect pickup for the Panthers.

For the past three years, Eifert has only played 14 games over the past three seasons for the Cincinnati Bengals. He's struggled with injuries. However, his one healthy year in 2015 he had 52 receptions for 615 yards with 13 total touchdowns. Even though he wasn't racking up yards, he was an elite red zone threat.

For the Panthers, that's exactly what they need. They can sign him on for a cheap price and have insurance for Olsen. They'd bet on one of them being healthy.

For Olsen, he was considered as one of the best tight ends in the league. However, he's become less effective and more injury prone as he ages. Much like Eifert, Olsen has struggled to remain on the field. He's played a total of 17 games over the past two seasons. His nagging foot injury required two surgeries.

He still has two years left on his contract. He signed a two-year, $17.1 million extension back in 2016 for the 2019 and 2020 seasons.

Last season Olsen caught 27 passes for 291 yards and four touchdowns in nine games. In 2017, Olsen hardly played but seven games. He had 17 receptions for 191 yards and a touchdown.

The Panthers hardly had any depth at the tight end positi0n. Rookie Ian Thomas grabbed 36 receptions on the season with 33 total yards and two total touchdowns. In Olsen's absence, the team went away from throwing to tight ends. Instead, they focused on throwing elsewhere.

By bringing in Eifert, the Panthers have the opportunity to bolster their tight end core. Two names that are known for having a knack to get to the endzone. The Panthers could even run single back formations with two tight ends. The possibilities are endless.
