Former BioWare general manager Casey Hudson has founded his own company: Humanoid Studios. Hudson is most well-known for his work directing the Mass Effect trilogy.

He announced his new independent studio in a recent tweet:

The Humanoid Studios website states that it aims to “unleash the creative freedom of developers” and “deliver the future of interactive entertainment” on its official website. They are also currently hiring for various senior developer positions.

As for details on the new game the studio will be working on, there's not enough information to infer anything yet. However, if his near 20-year tenure at BioWare is anything to go by, we can expect innovative story-driven experiences. Casey Hudson did help produce and direct Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, after all.

He briefly left BioWare to join Microsoft in 2014 after his work as creative director on Mass Effect. This stint there lasted only a few years, as he returned to BioWare again in 2017, this time working on the ill-fated multiplayer shooter, Anthem.

On December 3, 2020, he announced his second departure from the studio, with a statement saying he wanted to “make way for the next generation of studio leaders”.

That statement also included the departure of Mark Darrah, who was at the time Executive Producer for Dragon Age. This came at quite a shock due to the next Dragon Age game being in the middle of development.

These days, Darrah runs his own YouTube channel. He makes videos full of advice and anecdotes for game developers. His Youtube Channel cover reads: “passing on what I have learned after 23 years making games at BioWare.”
