Former Cleveland Cavaliers general manager and now New Orleans Pelicans Executive Vice President David Griffin can't help but reminisce the Cavs' first NBA title three years ago.

During his introductory press conference, the new Pelicans exec opened up about helping the Cavs win the title in 2016. Griffin said that it was memorable, especially with “generations” of fans from Cleveland thanking him for bringing an NBA Championship that they thought would never come in their lifetime.

“Generations of people came up to me, literally in tears (to say thank you), for delivering a championship for their grandparents to see,” Griffin recalled on Wednesday during the event, per Jim Eichenhofer of NBA.com.

“It was wonderful.”

Unfortunately for David Griffin and the Cavs, they had to part ways in 2017. Since then, Cleveland struggled and eventually entered a rebuilding mode this past season — with another championship far from becoming a reality.

After LeBron James signed with the Los Angeles Lakers last summer, the Wine and Gold concluded the 2018-19 NBA season with a woeful 19-63 (.232) win-loss record. It was the Cavs' worst finish since the 2010-11 NBA campaign. They also missed the playoffs for the first time in five years.

Despite their current rebuilding situation, memories of that incredible 2015-16 NBA season will remain in Cleveland fans' hearts forever.
