Former center for the Cleveland Cavaliers Walter “Edy” Tavares has wreaked havoc as he broke the backboard following a powerful slam at the AfroBasket games.

With 1:00 minute left in a tightly contested game, following the missed layup of his teammate, the former Cavaliers big man grabbed the offensive rebound and dunked the ball to the basket to tie the game, and eventually breaking the backboard during this process.

Taveres' bucket helped Cape Verde force overtime against Angola, eventually winning the game 77-71 in favor of Tavares' team.

After getting drafted by the Atlanta Hawks with their 43rd overall pick in 2014, Tavares has bounced around the NBA G-League for quite a while before signing with the Cavaliers in 2017.

Despite playing just one game for the Cavs due to a hand injury, the big man out of Cape Verde recorded a whopping six blocks in his Cavaliers debut.

Tavares was then waived by the Cavaliers before the start of the 2017-18 season. If he had played more, we could have seen LeBron James throwing lob passes to the Cavs' big man.

The former Cavs' giant currently plays for Real Madrid in Europe since 2017. He has found a home in Spain and is producing well for his team as he won the 2017-18 EuroLeague title.
